Iconography Across Time

The title of this post should be Iconography Across Technical Diagram, Infographics, Layoutting, Web Design, UI Design and Doodles. I tried to rewind some 8 years ago and checked what is consistent in my zigzag career. If theres some thing that remained with me those passed 8 years – that is Iconography. I have done lots of diagrams and graphics. And I realized that these icons stayed with me like loyal friends. I didnt even have Iconography in my portfolio. It is only when my Australian boss said that he likes the icon in my UI design that I noticed them. This time Im giving more time for Iconography.

Nostalgic Art – 70s Graphics

It is human nature to look back at his or past. I just noticed that even if our technology advances, technology itself builds its own virtual portal to its nostalgic past. For example is Youtube – I wonder how many storages contain old music videos like that of Cat Stevens. Wild World and Morning Has Broken are my favorite Cat Steven songs back in the 70s . The 70s is a psychedelic era characterized by hallucinogenic graphics. Photos and videos seems to have high levels of magenta and cyan. This at time was caused by the blend of pop art and emerging technology that time. As time progressed photos and videos became high definition. But then when mobile photo editing apps came, these 70s style resurfaced to the popular trend especially in Instagram. This effect is now called Filters wherein you can saturate, multiply and cooled the colors. In photoshop, this can be achieved through Layer Effects like Saturation and Curves. For this, I used Adobe Spark Post to edit Cat Stevens photo.

Freelancing is Cool

It has been 10 years since I am doing freelancing and it is cool. I guess the major change is the way we apply for work and the way we transact. Before i gain local clients through referrals but then now there is Upwork.com. Email was used for delivering materials but now even Facebook messenger is utilized especially for exchange of comments. Skype was there already and still being used today especially for business when Microsoft acquired it. And yes Paypal was there too. As technology emerged, more possible freelancing jobs are made available. Other than graphic design and web development, back office jobs like recruitment and accounting are freelanced too. Freelancing is being embraced by todays workforce who want explore a world outside the corporation. Freelancing gives you freedom to hone your skills, expand your network, get lots of extra source of income and most of all be yourself all the time. Youre paid for your skills and not to play the political game. That makes freelancing coolest!
